The Beekeeper
Chaminda, founder of Beehood LLC, is a second-generation beekeeper whose passion for apiculture began at an early age. His introduction to beekeeping came through his father, who maintained a small apiary as a hobby near the family home.
From a young age, Chaminda actively participated in hive inspections, honey harvesting, swarm collection, and seasonal colony management. This early, hands-on involvement allowed him to develop a strong understanding of honeybee behavior, hive health, and honey extraction techniques, while fostering a lasting passion for beekeeping.
Known for his practical and methodical approach, Chaminda has consistently sought opportunities to expand his experience by working alongside other beekeepers and assisting in different apiary environments. He is eager to share knowledge, learn from others, and contribute to the beekeeping community, gaining valuable insights and lessons through real-world experience.
As his experience grew, Chaminda became increasingly involved in managing colonies, learning how to monitor nectar flows, maintain colony strength, and support sustainable honey production. These formative years laid the foundation for his long-term vision of developing a commercial beekeeping operation.
By 2026, Chaminda is operating and expanding an apiary of over 50 honeybee colonies, gaining extensive hands-on experience in commercial hive management, honey production, and seasonal operations.
He is an active member of the Virginia Beach Beekeepers Association, the Tidewater Beekeepers Association, and the Virginia State Beekeepers Association, where he engages with experienced beekeepers and participates in ongoing education.
Through a combination of early exposure, hands-on experience, continuous learning, and a structured approach to beekeeping, Chaminda brings both passion and operational expertise to Beehood LLC, positioning it as a growing and sustainable commercial beekeeping enterprise in Virginia.
